Divorce
You thought it would never come to this.  You loved him, he loved you.  What happened?  Where did we go wrong?  My spouse was my life!  I know.  I've been there.  All kinds of issues - the children, the home, the finances.  It's a big mess, and you can't discuss it anymore without fighting.  You don't want to face the fact that maybe the marriage can't be salvaged, that no amount of counseling is going to help fix the issue.

What we do

We discuss your situation, what you want to see happen, how badly you want to hurt your soon-to-be ex-spouse.  Then, I tell you what I think the judge is going to do (and it usually doesn't include hurting your ex, so instead we work toward what is truly best for you and the children.)  I have a minimum fee I charge - look it up on the fee page, and you pay that.  It is called a retainer.  It might actually be enough to cover everything.  As we go along, I keep you informed of what is happening, so you can cope with the process.  A divorce takes a minimum of two months, so settle down and let's get busy.

Am I going to get bit on the copyright issue?

This cartoon of my favorite characters perfectly illustrates the issues.  The judge and attorney discuss who knows what, your spouse is on the witness stand making threatening gestures, and you are scared out of your wits because of the situation.  I got this off the web, I hope the cartoonist doesn't mind too much.
